LNWEF Scholarship Recipient Nazmy Mohamed is Aiming High!

Teachers often implore their students to “reach for the stars.” Recent Concord High School graduate Nazmy Mohamed is taking that advice literally.

This fall, Nazmy will begin his studies at Juniata College, with the goal to become an aerospace engineer and eventually work for NASA. His interest in space exploration was sparked by a robust engineering pathway program at Concord, which featured exceptional hands-on learning opportunities. 

In AP Physics, for example, Nazmy created rockets out of water bottles which utilized his math skills, including measuring, distance, and speed, as well as aerodynamics. He also worked with a wind tunnel, testing and analyzing the aerodynamic properties of various objects. He even learned to design and produce crucial parts using the school’s state-of-the-art 3D printer.

Nazmy credits the high school’s program with encouraging and supporting his vision for the future. Although the engineering course load, including working on team projects, was often challenging, the program taught him that he is capable of doing anything if he perseveres.

In August 2026, he will begin his first two years at Juniata College in Huntington, Pennsylvania, where he will gain expertise in the basics of civil engineering. The college’s program is designed to give students a solid background in engineering mechanics, structural analyses, and project development/management. 

This combination of engineering principles and practical skills will form the foundation for success when he transitions to Penn State University. Not only is Penn State a Juniata partner-school, it also has one of the top aerospace engineering departments in the country, and is an international leader in aerospace research. From there, Nazmy will gain deep technical knowledge in the core disciplines and integrative systems of aerospace engineering.

Receiving a top-tier education at a prestigious institution, and with such a challenging major, requires a tremendous amount of work and sacrifice. Throughout his high school career, Nazmy remained laser-focused on his education, working hard for consistently top grades. 

He also maintained a part-time job to help with college costs. But, the price tag of a college education is still out of reach for many students, and so he began looking for other sources of funding, such as the Leon N. Weiner Education Foundation (LNWEF) scholarship program, which he found through his Stoney Brook Apartments community. The LNWEF scholarship that Nazmy received will help this “rising star” to achieve his dreams, and he can’t wait!
